Dos of cheese and fruit pairing
- Having a selection of several different cheeses means you’re off to a winning start. Think texture, shape, and strength.
- Bear in mind what season you’re currently in as availability of fruits may vary. Summer is for berries, watermelon, grapes, and nectarines. Winter is for pears, apples, pawpaw, and dates.
Don’ts of cheese and fruit pairing
- Citrus and high acidity fruits can turn cheese pungent leaving a not so satisfying taste in your mouth, our advice would be to skip the acidity.
- Don’t use cheese that is fresh from the refrigerator. Room temperature cheese is best as their flavours are more enhanced.
6 delightful pairings from our top restaurant in Cape Town
From classic to slightly more intriguing combinations, the below pairings provide a whole host of balance, juiciness, and crumbliness and we can’t wait to share them with you.
- Pear and Brie- a classic combination offering great balance of texture and flavour. Brie’s creamy nuttiness contrasts well with the pear’s firmness.
- Nectarines and Blue cheese- the piquant flavour and crumbly texture of blue cheese is balanced well by the sweet, juiciness of the nectarine.
- Apple and Cheddar- a simple yet delicious combination! The mature taste of cheddar is complimented by the sweetness of the apple.
- Blueberries and Mozzarella- where the mild curd mozzarella wonderfully intertwines with the blueberry’s tanginess.
- Dates and Ricotta- a beautiful blend of soft and hard, slight, and sweet.
- Watermelon and Feta- a fantastic and fresh summer pairing! Juicy and sweet meets salty and crumbly in all the right ways.
